Radiation in No. 1 reactor building at highest level yet | The Japan Times Online
: "Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Saturday it has detected radiation of up to 4,000 millisieverts per hour in the building housing the No. 1 reactor at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

When this started I think that I said that it didn't diminish my support for nuclear power. I have finally started to rethink that. This is such a collossal fuckup that I am wondering if it is a factor of the current designs just being impossible to deal with in a major crisis. Sure, maybe it is just that we are seeing human nature at work (not wanting to admit a huge fuck up) but if that is the case then it just means that we are unlikely to be able to be trusted with something that is as potentially catastrophic as nuclear power plants as currently configured.

I am not happy about this prospect because nuclear power is a part of the mix we need to get us off hydrocarbons and if we cannot rely on it then we are in a bigger pickle than I thought.
