My response from Glenn Beck

I posted about the letter I sent to Glenn Beck about the horrible clipped Bill Clinton quote on climate change...

I got a response from his office acknowledging that he had apologized ... I was amazed and impressed.
Dear Rob,
We hope you heard Glenn's apology on Thursday during the 10 o'clock hour for this mistake.

I am NOT a Glenn Beck fan ... but this was a very nice thing to see.

My letter to glenn beck

Just because I like to torture myself .. I sent this letter to Glenn Beck today

----

I am disappointed that your host, on his radio show, played an out of context sound bite by Bill Clinton to make a dishonest point.

The full quote is ..

CLINTON: And maybe America, and Europe, and Japan, and Canada -- the rich counties [sic] -- would say, "OK, we just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren." We could do that. But if we did that, you know as well as I do, China and India and Indonesia and Vietnam and Mexico and Brazil and the Ukraine, and all the other countries will never agree to stay poor to save the planet for our grandchildren. The only way we can do this is if we get back in the world's fight against global warming and prove it is good economics that we will create more jobs to build a sustainable economy that saves the planet for our children and grandchildren. It is the only way it will work.
And guess what? The only places in the world today in rich countries where you have rising wages and declining inequality are places that have generated more jobs than rich countries because they made a commitment we didn't. They got serious about a clean, efficient, green, independent energy future... If you want that in America, if you want the millions of jobs that will come from it, if you would like to see a new energy trust fund to finance solar energy and wind energy and biomass and responsible bio-fuels and electric hybrid plug-in vehicles that will soon get 100 miles a gallon, if you want every facility in this country to be made maximally energy efficient that will create millions and millions and millions of jobs, vote for her. She'll give it to you. She's got the right energy plan.

And he played...

CLINTON [audio clip]: We just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions, 'cause we've got to save the planet for our grandchildren.

Which, as you can clearly see, clearly inverts the meaning of the full quote.

Dishonestly clipping a quote makes it seem like you cannot make your point by being honest ... surely that isnt the case.. is it?

TBogg has lost his mind too

We won't vote for her. The reality on the ground for us is that we do pretty well for ourselves under a Republican administration and I would be willing to take my chances with a solidly Democratic congress, but without her. Sorry folks, but there are a lot of people like us. I know that we're all supposed to join hands and pull together for a greater more progressive tomorrow and yadda yadda yadda.... but when it comes to Hillary Clinton, fuck that noise. My contempt for her has reached the Lieberman line.

While I agree with the sentiment, that she has run a horrible scorched earth campaign, I think that this attitude is just bullshit and every bit as stupid as Taylor Marsh. Even worse it is the "I have mine, now Fuck You" thinking that has become indicative of the GOP of late.

I was very saddened to see this post from someone that I generally read with great joy.

Michelle Malkin Has No Candidate this time

From Sadly, No
What it boils down to, Michelle, is that you’re a rotten human being. And I don’t mean that in a general, “Oh-you-disagree-with-me-on-policy-issues-so-I-don’t-like-you” sort of way: I mean that you go out of your way to hurt people on a very personal level, and you seem to get a big kick out of doing it. No political party, no matter how crazy it is, wants to be seen as the party of sadistic and vicious assholes. The fact that you have no one to vote for in this upcoming election is a major victory for the forces of decency and sanity in this country. May every election henceforth follow the same pattern.

Well said!

Demographics Vs the GOP

from NewsHounds via Group News Blog
Colmes asked, “Why inject the word white and use golf as if you're painting Republicans as white people who play golf and won't vote for a black guy?”

Morris smiled gleefully and said, “'Cause 90% of the Republican Party is white. I'm not sure 90% plays golf but a lot do.” He didn't mention anything about Republicans' willingness to vote for an African American.

So ... a Republican strategist is now gleefully saying that the Republican party is made up of White Folk. Purely as an exercise in maintaining the existence of the party as a political force wouldn't you think that they wouldn't be so happy about tying themselves to a declining demographic?

And speaking of demographics ... from golfonline

Golfers are your ideal customer: The typical golfer is male, 39 years old, has a household income of $63,300, plays 21 rounds per year, and is an active consumer.
GOLFONLINE delivers the cream of the crop. Our user is male, 46 years old, has a household income of $95,000, plays 47 rounds per year and made five or more online purchases in the past twelve months.

And from the US Census Bureau for the same time period (2004) the median family income in the US was $44,389.

Yeah, it is the Democrats that are the "elite"

Taylor Marsh Has Lost Her Mind Too

When Dems start listening to Karl Rove after his stunningly useless predictions in 2006, I can only assume that we have slipped into an alternate universe.

Hillary Clinton has lost her mind

From CNN
Hillary Clinton defended her reasoning for staying in the presidential race Monday afternoon by pointing out that Karl Rove's analysis shows her to be the strongest candidate against John McCain in November.

Who can forget this gem from Karl just before the 2006 elections ...

SIEGEL: I don't want to have you to call races...

ROVE: I'm looking at all of these Robert and adding them up. I add up to a Republican Senate and Republican House. You may end up with a different math but you are entitled to your math and I'm entitled to THE math.

SIEGEL: I don't know if we're entitled to a different math but your...

ROVE: I said THE math.

So yes ... you listen to turdblossom....

Has everyone associated with the Clinton campaign started doing crack?

Good Enough For Warren Buffett

From CNN
Warren Buffett, a longtime friend of both Hillary and Bill Clinton, told CNN Monday Barack Obama would be his choice for the next President of the United States.

Speaking with CNN's Becky Anderson, the billionaire investor said he would gladly vote for either candidate, but said it is clear the senator from Illinois will be the party's nominee.

"So it would be Barack Obama, — [he] would be my preference," Buffett said.

Obama staged a little get together in Portland yesterday

Tens of thousands jammed Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland today to watch Barack Obama wrap up a busy weekend in Oregon and a historic campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The Portland Fire Bureau estimated the crowd at 72,000. About 60,000 squeezed inside the gates and 12,000 watched from outside.

It was a record crowd for an Oregon political event. In 2004, an estimated 50,000 turned out to see Democrat John Kerry, who brought along movie idol Leonardo DiCaprio and rocker Jon Bon Jovi.
Obama was the biggest star at Sunday's gathering -though a popular Portland band, The Decemberists, provided the warm-up act. With blue skies and temperatures in the 80s, thousands waited in lines that snaked through downtown Portland streets.

According to the Census Bureau Oregon is 90% white and about 2% black. Yeah, he has a terrible time connecting with them white folks.

Fuck but our narrative is stupid...

At this rate it will be only a couple weeks until all the lobbyists are gone from the campaign.

I guess then Cindy will be running a nice little Mom and Pop campaign? Oh, never mind. She has her own ethics issues doesn't she.

Stupid Sniper Tricks

From International Herald Tribune comes this bit of stupidity.
An American soldier used a Koran, the Islamic holy book, for target practice in an area west of Baghdad, prompting an apology from the U.S. military.

The next time some wingnut tells you that Islam is a religion of hate ask them if just maybe they would be pissed off if they saw video of a member of the Iranian military taking target practice on a copy of the King James Version.

Oh, right, that is different isnt it

Silly me

The Real McCain

yes indeed, quite a maverick

Ana Marie Cox -- Journalist?

From Bloggingheads.tv

Ana Marie Cox is now a very serious journalist .. except for the fact that she is completely in the bag for John McCain. On the plus side .. she fully admits it.

The big picture

From Instaputz
Grow the fuck up. You don't penalize an entire country simply because your preferred candidate did not get nominated.

Kinda sums up my thoughts on the matter too. Any Democrat that is seriously thinking about voting for McCain should check themselves into the nearest psych ward because they have obviously become unhinged and are a danger to themselves and others.

My Favorite Words in the New York Times

Maureen Dowd is off today.

Laura Flanders and GritTV

Everyone knows that I adore Rachel Maddow .. I also have a huge intellectual crush on Laura Flanders. Her latest project is GritTV. Check it out.

And yes, for those of you keeping score .. they are both lesbians ... sigh .. i can never catch a break.

Jim Webb or John Edwards ?

My short list for Obama's VP has two names on it ....
Jim Webb

and
John Edwards

I am torn because I think that we need good Democrats in the Senate but Webb would completely obliterate any BS talking point that McCain's military experience (which, we must remember was not exactly a stunningly successful career) somehow makes him uniquely qualified.

Webb for VP would also free up Edwards for either Attorney General or Secy of Health and Human Services (with a mandate to fix health care .. not health insurance).
