But Racism is a thing of the past in america

Annals of New York | TPM Editors Blog:
"Yesterday afternoon an African-American couple was eating at the outside tables at Benny’s Burrito in Greenwich Village when a drunken man, complaining about his wife leaving him and his job at Goldman Sachs, crashed their table. Douglass Reddish, 25, the man with his girlfriend, tried to help the man steady himself but got a different response than he likely expected. “This n***** wants to fight me?” said the unidentified man according to witnesses at the scene, “You n*****s are why I lost my job!”"

John Cole On Jenny McCarthy

Oh, and this Asshole » Balloon Juice:

"My only response is fuck you, Jenny. And I hope the parents of kids who are dead because of you haunt you, you fucking imbecile. I don’t know how the species survives when so many people are inclined to ignore the medical and scientific community but take the advice of a fake-titted fake blonde Playmate MTV star. "

Pretty much sums it up.

This was in response to the news that her son apparently doesn't have and never had autism and that she is now soft-pedaling her earlier anti-vax bullshit.

How hard is it to say "I was wrong, I am sorry for the harm I caused". I mean really, how hard is it?

Megan McArdle Gets Paid To Write

Should the Senate end the filibuster? « Megan McArdle:
"As I understand it, there is about a 0% chance that Democrats will retake the House in 2014, which means that Republicans already have quite an efficient veto over any legislation they might like to pass.  Meanwhile, there’s about a 70% chance that Republicans will control the White House, the House, and the Senate come January 2017.  Without the filibuster in place, Republicans could do a lot of damage to programs that Democrats like.  That seems an expensive risk to run in order to get some presidential nominees through, however mad you are about GOP obstructionism."

Although I have to note that this one she did for free. Which presumably means that it was so stupid that no respectable publication would touch it.

One has to wonder why Tom Barry thought pulling Áine Collins onto his lap was a good plan.

I am sure he doesn't anymore.

On casual Sexism

My step-by-step programme for curing men of sexism - Comment - Voices - The Independent:
"The History Boys: And then in bumbles David Cameron congratulating Andy Murray on being “the first British player to win Wimbledon in 77 years”. Murray is the first British man to win the men’s. Virginia Wade won the women’s title in 1977, Ann Jones in 1969 and Angela Mortimer in 1961. If you find women get exasperated about being Tippexed out of history books in this way, it’s because it’s been happening FOR EVER. Mumbling, “Oh, well, you know what I mean” doesn’t cut it, because what you mean is, “Oh stuff the women’s tournament. Let’s face it, it’s just not as important.”"

How to Lose that Intern Job

NTSB: Intern confirmed false crew names in to Asiana crash - CNN.com:
"(CNN) -- The National Transportation Safety Board apologized Friday for "inaccurate and offensive" names that were mistakenly confirmed by a summer intern as those of the four pilots of Asiana Airlines Flight 214, which crash-landed last week in San Francisco. "

I still don't think that this excuses KTVU from airing the report. Only a moron would have thought those were real names.

That is mighty pale.

How to get fired in one easy lesson

TV Reporter Identifies Pilots Of Plane Crash With Fake Racist Names | ThinkProgress:
"In a shockingly racist move on Friday, San Francisco news station KTVU misreported the names of the pilots aboard Asiana Flight 214, which crashed at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and killed two girls from China. They reported that the pilot names were Captain Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk, and Bang Ding Ow."

I am guessing that whomever fed that story into the teleprompter is now unemployed

Proof That LIberals Are Sometimes Assholes Too

San Diego Mayor Says He’ll Change Amid Harassment Claims:
"Bob Filner is embroiled in turmoil less than a year after being elected San Diego’s first Democratic mayor in 20 years, facing old questions about his confrontational style and a new challenge over allegations that he sexually harassed women. Filner on Thursday rejected calls from prominent former supporters to resign but he apologized for mistreating women and pleaded with voters for patience, saying, “I need help.” Without detailing his actions, Filner called his behavior inappropriate and wrong and said he “diminished” the office."

Being a liberal doesn't get you a get out of asshole jail free card in my book.

Geraldo Rivera is an odious human being

Geraldo Rivera: Jury Would Have Shot Trayvon 'a Lot Sooner Than George Zimmerman' | Video Cafe:
""So, it's a dark night. A 6-foot-2-inch, hoodie-wearing stranger is in the immediate housing complex. How would the ladies of the jury have that have reacted? I submit that if they were armed, that they would have shot and killed Trayvon Martin a lot sooner than George Zimmerman did. This is self defense.""

And judging from this, he thinks the rest of the world is equally as odious.

Has Harry Reid Found A Spine?

Reid Sets Votes On Nominees, Threatens Nuclear Option If GOP Filibusters | TPMDC:
"Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) launched a barn-burner of a speech Thursday on the Senate floor, excoriating Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for continued obstruction when it comes to presidential nominees. He escalated the battle by setting up test votes next week on a series of potentially controversial nominees.
“Senator McConnell broke his word,” Reid said. “The Republican leader has failed to live up to his commitments. He’s failed to do what he said he would do — move nominations by regular order except in extraordinary circumstances. I refuse to unilaterally surrender my right to respond to this breach of faith.”"

The CIA And A Secret Vacuum Cleaner:
"Confined to the basement of a CIA secret prison in Romania about a decade ago, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the admitted mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, asked his jailers whether he could embark on an unusual project:
Would the spy agency allow Mohammed, who had earned his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, to design a vacuum cleaner?
The agency officer in charge of the prison called CIA headquarters and a manager approved the request, a former senior CIA official told The Associated Press."

On Airline Safety

After the Asiana Airlines crash it helps to remember this:

You’re over 70 times likelier to die in a car accident than a plane crash.

Airline travel is far safer than just about any other mode of transportation in our modern world. It is good every now and then to remember that.

On Milestones

Just was looking at my stats for this humble little blog and I realized that 10 days from my 6th Blogiversary I am only 600 pageviews short of 60,000. It would be really nice if I could hit that.

And yes, I realize that if you are here you already have contributed. You could tell your friends though ...

An Epiphany While filling out forms for My Green Card

I will pay more in taxes (state and federal, payroll and income tax) than the median household income in this country.

Yeah, I think the US should welcome me with open arms for no other reason than i don't bitch, whine and complain about it like so many folks do.
