CBC News - Nova Scotia - N.S. denies automatic access to patient info

CBC News - Nova Scotia - N.S. denies automatic access to patient info: "Nova Scotia's NDP government has denied a request by two Halifax hospital foundations for access to patient names and addresses for fundraising purposes.

'Automatic access without a patient's expressed consent is not given to the foundations,' Health Minister Maureen MacDonald told reporters in Halifax on Tuesday.

MacDonald had been lobbied for changes to a new Personal Health Information Protection Act that would make patient names and addresses automatically available to foundations through a provision called 'implied access.'"
