Zero Tolerance

Karen Dukess - Monkey Bars – High School Girl Gets 2-Week Suspension for Taking Birth Control Pill - True/Slant
Does this punishment fit the crime? A Virginia high school girl broke a school rule against taking any kind of drugs in school by taking her daily birth control pill. She got caught, and got a two-week suspension and a recommendation for expulsion.
Zero tolerance rules are there so that administrators don't actually have to make tough decisions. But isn't that precisely what they are paid for?
