The Milgram Experiments

My good friend Global Citizen (yes this person really exists) asked me a question about the behaviour of some people in NAZI germany that led me to post these.

As a little background. Milgram was testing how people reacted to authority and in particular how far they would go inflicting pain when it was with the full knowledge and encouragement of authority figures. I think that this experiment is also germane today when we have conversations of torture and who is ultimately responsible for it. I argue that it is the people that put in place the framework that let the people on the ground think that torture was a good idea despite any personal misgivings they may have had.

Anyway, without further ado...

I also point the reader to this talk by Philip Zimbardo.
