"I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship."
How would it be possible to say something like that and not realize that a) it is racist and b) someone is going to call you out on it?
it's that whole "consensus reality" thing harshing O'Rly?'s mellow again, is all
ReplyDeleteAs much s I dislike O'Reilly I don't see anything wrong with what he said.He was obviously being sarcastic when he said his comment about the actions of the people in Sylvia's.I love Media Matters you do wonderful work but I think you're wrong here.O'Reilly was railing against stereotypes.

ReplyDeleteIs what he said. Bill O'Reilly is many things but, like myself, subtle isn't one of them.
If he had instead said "I wasn't surprised that ...." I would buy your argument but he uses words very knowingly and he knew exactly what he was saying and how it would be interpreted.
Upon further reflection about this I am completely of the opinion that he did it to goose his ratings after having been caught in the "money" demographic by Keith Olbermann.
