On Online Dating

Since I suck at being alone ...

What are folks' recommendations for online dating sites I should try?
Or which ones should I make sure I stay the hell away from?
Or should I just give up and buy a dog?

  1. Recent experience with OKC. A dog might be preferable. And I don't even like dogs!

  2. Well, I know two friends who've had great luck with match.com and are now married. Another friend said it was a 'meat market' so she tried eharmony. She now has a cat.

Try a new hobby. Volunteer at your local shelter--you'll have LOTS of dogs and cats to play with and take for a walk. Invest in yourself. If you can't stand your own company...

Please don't get a dog unless you will keep him/her for the rest of his/her life.--GlobalCitizen

  4. Also, don't *buy* a dog. Please. Please go to your local shelter and save a life. Petfinder.com. Sometimes you may have to train them, or change their habit, but it can be done. Or you could adopt one from a rescue; it will cost more than a shelter fee because the rescue would have spayed, microchipped and trained the pup for you. Still, that money goes towards rescuing more dogs, cats, bunnies and other animals. Why buy when millions of dogs and cats are being killed in shelters for want of a home, right?

Get a dog, AND date. --GlobalCitizen in the middle of a project

  5. Avoid the free sites - you get what you pay for, I'm afraid. Match.com seems to be the most respectable, although if you want to feel good about things, in a "there are a lot of people far, far worse off than I could ever be", check out the forums at Plenty of Fish.

    Meanwhile, embrace the solitude! :-)
